STREETRACING WEEKEND AT KILLARNEY:

Sat 16th June (Youth Day) and Sun 17th June (Fathers Day).

Killarney race track will once again be hosting a marathon of events and this coming weekend promises to have even more attractions. The actions kicks off at 9am with MSA Drag racing, this time the on track action will include timed gymkhana sessions on the oval as well as some chase events around the one mile half main including turn two and turn three. Slots will also be made available later in the day to any drifters wanting to practice their skills. Off track action during the day will also include a Soundoff inside and around the new pit facility centrally located between the drag start line and oval attractions. Street2Strip will follow from late afternoon and run later into the evening. Sunday is a Streetcar Track Day running from early morning into mid afternoon, as it is father’s day the organisers have decided to allow fathers one free passenger per car at this event. Please see below for more detail on the Street2Strip and Streetcar Track Day rules and requirements.

The last MSA Drag racing event was unfortunately delayed due to bad weather, due to this the organisers decided to double the prize money up for grabs at this event. Top competitors are expected to attend; each will be trying to take their part of the R7000 cash up for grabs. Motor lease has also kindly supported the event with cash gift hampers at the MSA event as well as for the Street2Strip burnouts taking place later in the evening.  There are two competitions for the motorcycles while the cars are separated into Club competitors (Sub 13 second runs) and Streetcars (13 seconds and more). Each have three competitions catering for bracket racers and heads up racers, the racers will need to be on top form on the day. MSA Drag racing prize giving will be hosted at the marshal’s facility about one hour after the run.

The oval and half main side of the circuit will be abuzz with action, this due to a revival of a similar format to the old Streetcar Challenge days. The Super Special format goes like this – each competitor will be allowed one drag practice run. Then each competitor will be required to do one drag run in each of the quarter mile lanes, this will take place between 9.30am and 10am. Then the gymkhana will take place from 11am till 1pm, the fastest run will count. The final stage will be a 5 lap chase around the half main circuit, anti-clockwise. All times will be added together to give each competitor a final time, the one with the least time wins. Three classes are available and all competitors will be required to hold MSA competition licences. Driver’s info – Entry fee R100. Entries and scrutineering 8am, (Class A – all 6cyl, turbo charged, supercharged, rotaries, V8’s, special vehicles as per the organisers decision THIS IS A FUN EVENT. Class B – 4 cyl 1980cc and more, naturally aspirated. Class C – 4cyl, maximum of 1979cc) Drifters will be given a chance to practice their skills after all these timed events from 5pm till 9pm.

The new pit facility will place host to an internationally recognised format called EMMA SQ and SPL (European Mobile Media Association). Tests will be taken for both sound quality and loudness. EMMA registration will take place inside the new pit facility till 9am with the first of official sound off runs scheduled to take place from 10am. The format will run SQ first followed by SPL later in the day. Prize giving is scheduled to take place from 6pm+-. Additional attractions in this area will also include Monster Energy drink giveaways, truck and arcade games. A kiddie’s play area is also being arranged by the guys from EMMA; this will include a petting zoo, jumping castle and face painting. For more information on this area and the sound off contact Tim on 0710956061.

Street2Strip is scheduled to take place from 6pm till 10.30pm. Entries will be limited to the first 200 vehicles only and starts at 5.30pm. The start line burnout competition with R500 cash up for grabs (sponsored by Motorlease) will take place at the drag start line from 8.30pm, the last competition was won by a Turbo charged Toyota wheel spinning in top gear, well done to Ching for that awesome display of power.

.................................................................

The idea of the Street 2 Strip events is to provide the facility at a nominal fee to street racers who are racing in and around Cape Town. As there will be no formal competition and this is aimed purely at the Street racers, no competition license will be required however indemnities will have to be completed. The timing lights will be in place however there will be no results posted nor prizes awarded at the end of the evening.

This event is aimed specifically at the streetcar street racers with RSA driver’s licenses. So with that in mind there will be no motorcycles on the evening, no interruptions from the Club drag competitors, just a queue of streetcars wanting to take one another on down the strip. As we are planning to have many more of these types of events we are aware of noise pollution laws, we will not allow any vehicle even moderately too loud after 9pm. This includes some drifting practice at the oval side of the circuit when approved to run. So if you have an after-market exhaust, don’t worry unless it is very noisy. Straight through exhaust will have a problem so please do be aware of the situation.

(Please note that rain could cause the event to be delayed, cancelled or postponed. Unfortunately there are no refunds and right of admission is reserved. Times could also change as the organizers see fit to do so if required.)
