Sunday 25th July 2010: Killarney MSA Drags & Gymkhana + Soundoff
Please note that in a copy of our calendar earlier this year we were going to run this event as a Germany vs Japan however it has been decides to rather run GvsJ in more of a summer month and will be running this later in the year.
Sun 25th July MSA DRAGS, GYMKHANA & SOUNDOFF & more. 9am till +-5pm
Admission is R30pp, U16 R10, U12 free. Gates open at 8am.
Sunday will be another exciting day at Killarney Racing Circuit where speed and sound will be the order of the day. Action packed drag racing will take place on the main straight with practice from 9am and competition rounds starting at noon and running into the late afternoon. The oval side of the circuit will have a gymkhana competition taking place there from mid morning and running until each competitor has had their allocated number of runs. This can become very exciting when the competition it tight or if there are a couple of rear wheel drive powered machines in the mix.
The New Pit facility, centrally located between both on track activities, will be the venue for the SOUNDOFF competition. This event is being hosted by BoyzToyz and you can contact Paul on 0769489235.
GP Motor Racing Club will also be hosting a Kids area with Mini Quad bikes, Jumping Castle and a Show and Shine for the Dads and Moms Cars around the NEW PITS.
Action on the Drag strip promises to be very exciting as a vehicle carrier is confirmed to be bringing down some huge amount of horse power from the North West province. These vehicles include a special return appearance of Denis Geyer in his Rotary powered Mazda RX7 as well as a 323 Turbo Rotary. His vehicle carrier will be joined by the likes of Ivan Cotze (Ford Escort Cosworth Turbo), a 600kw Ford Escort powered by a Turbo Toyota motor & brothers Gert & Coert Pieterse (Turbo / Nitro Nissan Champ bakkie). These 6 cars coming from far up country will be a very interesting addition to the day.
Adding even more to this attraction will be a large hand full of Supermoto racing competitors joining both the drag racing and gymkhana action. These bikes are hugely spectacular as they are dirt machines fitted with slick tyres so if its not sliding it usually has its front wheel in the air. These bikes are great fun to watch at Short Circuit Racing events hosted at Killarney and promise to be just as exciting on Sunday.
At recent events we have seen some hugely fast times. Willie Nel (Can-Am), Luc Lucchesi (Opel Corsa) & Hermann Mostert (Nissan Champ) have all been in the 10 second bracket recently, could they make it a sub 10sec run on Sunday. Other top running competitors to look out for include Bradley Van Roy and Ikraam Bulbulia (VW) are being closely chased in Class B by Waleed Bassadien (in another VW), Kamaak Basardien (Datsun) is being chased by Leon Davids (Ford Escort) and Tousseef Haroun (Opel Kadett). Class D front runners include Munneb Abdullief (Datsun), Mohamed Sattar (VW) and Brendan Moore is close behind in his constantly improving Beachbug.
Recent Killarney gymkhanas have also seen some fast times and very impressive driving with the likes of Mike Nathan (BMW M3 CSL), Brent Laurings (Opel Kadett) & Paul Fox (VW) to name a few.
Race entries will be at the main gate caravan from 8am till 9.30am, scrutineering till 10am. MSA licence will be available at entries from R300 (quicker than 13 sec requires WPMC membership & medical cover)

STREET2STRIP - Posted: 16/02/2010
The idea of the Street 2 Strip events is to provide the facility at a nominal fee to streetracers who are racing in and around Cape Town. As there will be no formal competition and this is aimed purely at the Streetracers, no competition license will be required however indemnities will have to be completed. The timing lights will be in place however there will be no results posted nor prizes awarded at the end of the evening.
This event is aimed specifically at the streetcar streetracers with RSA drivers licence's. So with that in mind there will be no motorcycles on the evening, no interruptions from the Club drag competitors, just a queue of streetcars wanting to take one another on down the strip. As we are planning to have many more of these types of events we are aware of noise pollution laws, we will not allow any vehicle even moderately too loud after 9pm. This includes some drifting practice at the oval side of the circuit when approved to run. So if you have an after market exhaust, dont worry unless it is very noisy. Straight through exhaust will have a problem so please do be aware of the situation.
(Please note that rain could cause the Street2Strip event to be cancelled before the event or at any time during the event. No refunds, right of admission reserved. Times could also change as the organizers see fit to do so.)

STREET RACING HISTORY
The club had great pleasure in introducing this series in 2003 to accommodate licensed street legal vehicles, kind of like the good old days of group N racing where the full interior must remain in the car. They must also ride on street legal tyres leaving everyone on an even playing field.
This is a great chance for street racers to bring it to the track and prove their stuff in a safe controlled environment and having their times official to see where they sit in their classes. The six classes have been structured to accommodate everything from a 1300cc Mini right up to a 7 litre V8.
Turbocharging increases the vehicle's capacity by 50%, while supercharging and nitrous oxide rate a 40% upgrade.
The Challenge consists of a 400m sprint race and a gymkhana which has added excitement. Much like a rally super-special stage, two vehicles are sent off together on different courses designed to be theoretically equal in terms of elapsed time. Laid out on the original infield stockie pit area and the oval, if the cars are evenly matched and the drivers make no mistakes, they should cross the finish line together. The day ends with sideways driving and a burnout competition, which is always enjoyed by spectators and competitors alike.
With this being our second year, we are continuing to fine-tune the series and believe we have a winning formula to attract the street cars to Killarney.
We have also established a fund from a percentage of the gate money, for the purpose of aiding previously disadvantaged competitors to get started in motorsport.
